Introduction read by author.

In The Spiritual Child, psychologist Lisa Miller presents the next big idea in psychology: the science and the power of spirituality. She explains the clear, scientific link between spirituality and health and shows that children who have a positive, active relationship to spirituality:

  • Are 40 percent less likely to use and abuse substances
  • Are 60 percent less likely to be depressed as teenagers
  • Are 80 percent less likely to have dangerous or unprotected sex
  • Have significantly more positive markers for thriving, including an increased sense of meaning and purpose and high levels of academic success

Combining cutting-edge research with broad anecdotal evidence from her work as a clinical psychologist to illustrate just how invaluable spirituality is to a child's mental and physical health, Miller translates these findings into practical advice for parents, giving them concrete ways to develop and encourage their children's - as well as their own - well-being. In this provocative, conversation-starting book, Dr. Miller presents us with a pioneering new way to think about parenting our modern youth.

I want to love this book but the robot voice just is so hard to get passed. Good information but in need of a new narrator.

I want to love this book....

contains a good message and was worth the read. way too repetitive though, feeling like the writer is trying to convince you with their words rather than facts and data.

contains references to.studies but does not go into the details of them. many single person examples instead of stats to try and prove a point.

overall I wish there was more depth and reliance on studies and data.

good message. way too wordy and repetitive

I absolutely love the book. But the narrator has a sing song voice with the exact same way of reading every sentence. It drives me crazy. It's hard to listen to and understand what she is saying. But the information in the book is amazing.

Narrator is awful

I am very interested in the subject and very much want to hear what the author has to say but this reading is painful to listen to. The reader's voice is harsh and cold. It sounds like a computer is narrating the book and the effect is unpleasant.

I truly enjoyed the thorough, well-organized content of this book and found much value in what the author had to say about spirituality as a whole, as well as how to better cultivate it in a child’s life. I am a mother of two young boys (3 years and 16 months), and I originally picked up this book in search of answers. If you’re a parent who would like to explore your child’s spiritual capabilities, you will definitely find something that resonates with you in this book. Many of my personal questions were answered. I also gained an overall deeper perspective, which I am grateful to integrate into parenting my sons with their spirituality at the forefront.

Sound direction for nurturing a child’s spirituality
