Edgar Allan Poe elevated the gothic story, developed the unreliable narrator, recast psychological terror, and reveled in both the horror and the supernal beauty of death. From Poe's rich, unrivaled imagination comes a collection of his most masterful works, including "The Black Cat", "The Fall of the House of Usher", and, of course, "The Tell-Tale Heart". Each story explores morbid themes of grief, greed, fear, and guilt, and together they embody Poe's grotesque obsessions...even the dread of being buried alive.

At the beating heart of each of these 18 tales - and his tour de force in verse, "The Raven" - is proof that Poe can still surprise, shock, unsettle, and hold listeners in thrall after more than a century.

AmazonClassics brings you timeless works from the masters of storytelling. Ideal for anyone who wants to listen to a great work for the first time or rediscover an old favorite, these new editions open the door to literature's most unforgettable characters and beloved worlds.

Regarding the writing, It’s Edgar Allen Poe. They say he’s the Investor of Science Fiction, and I definitely believe that. Any fans of horror in any form (books, movies, etc.) will enjoy this. This is my first time venturing into Poe’s writing. That said, some stories I liked more than others. The Black Cat, M. Valdamar (probably my favorite) Brilliant narration. Definitely would recommend!

Brilliant writer, wonderful narration

Updated production by audible is good if not somewhat average. Fits the genre.

Even though Poe has been accused of using ghost writers especially during the heights of his substance abuse, his most famous works are from him and his dark imagination. Everyone should read his most famous works. They are well written, concise, and creepy as hell. Many of his works have been the inspiration for movies and other works. If you really haven’t read Poe, now is the time.

My attention started wandering whenever I stopped reading along with this story, so someday I'll need to relisten to it and pay better attention. Because Malcolm Hillgartner did a really excellent job narrating these stories! I was surprised that he was the only voice we heard!

Didn't fully track it, but still, I enjoyed it!
