The journey through M. R. Carey's 'immersive, impeccably rendered world' (Kirkus) continues in The Trials of Koli - the second book of the Rampart trilogy.

Koli has been cast from his village and into the strange and deadly forest beyond. But he heard a story, once. A story about lost London, and the mysterious tech of the old times that was there. And if Koli can find it, there may be a way for him to redeem himself - by saving what's left of humanity.

Look out for the final novel in the Rampart trilogy: The Fall of Koli

Critic reviews

"Carey writes with compassion and fire - strange and surprising and humane." (Lauren Beukes)

"A broken world that is both marvellously expansive and claustrophobically menacing." (Publisher's Weekly)

"This is a bold, unique world - be prepared to be engrossed." (SciFiNow)

Still quite absorbed by this world. Excellent narrators. Interesting worldbuilding / breaking. Still like Koli (but why doesn't he try to learn things..) I have already bought the next one and will dive right into it :)

(Kept thinking that it might work having a drinking game listening to these books, drink when you hear 'by and by. :D')

The novel is well written, and the use of language does a remarkable job of painting a realistic picture of a world quite different to the one we know. The characters are well wrought, and grow and change in belivable ways. It is easy to reccomend this book.

A captivating story
