Sometimes, a woman needs a hero.

Miss Caroline Jennings is facing a life of shame and poverty. She has lost everything: her home, her father, and any chance of happiness. What is more? If her father's secret is exposed, she will be known as the daughter of a traitor.

Surely, life cannot get much worse.

When a carriage accident throws her into the river - fitting punishment for her father's crimes - she is tempted to allow herself to succumb. It is only the thought of her two younger sisters and the strong arms of her rescuer that keep her among the living.

Alexander Vessey, Viscount Beachmont, ex-soldier, and one of the richest men in Britain. A classic hero if she'd ever seen one. Big, strong, and commanding. Any woman's heart would flutter like hers to be saved by him.

His heroics unfortunately have saved her for a life of loneliness and want.

However, when he offers her a marriage of convenience, it seems the perfect solution to regain her life. The only danger she faces now is the possibility of losing her heart.

I liked that Alex was a hero throughout the story. He came to Caroline's rescue personally and through his orders over and over. Chivalry and love are alive and well.
Suspenseful, drama, and romance . What an ending!! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.

So, not the best story by this author but I really think it was the narration that bothered me most. The story was fine but felt a bit cold and forced to then suddenly heat up as quick as it did. The use of the wrong title for viscount's wife yes is a simple error that should have been fixed but if you're not super detail oriented then it may not bother you. As with other books by this author the bedroom door stays wide open and is definitely an adult read. The narrator was fine during most of the book, the part that bothered me the most was the viscount's much younger brother was given an American little kid accent that didn't fit the story.

I saw the Jennie Goutet review and was leary, but I did VISCOUNT'S BRIDE as an audiobook, so I literally did not see minor execution problems. #2 of 4 in a series but a whole story. Audiobook narration is very good, with lots of pitch, rate and vocal variation, thus avoiding the dread sing-songy pattern of some narrators. Appropriately British. Functions as a stand alone, could read in any order, but 1->4 is best.

Story:
Caroline Jennings, oldest of three sisters, has been recently impoverished by a father who became mysteriously rich, Alexander Vessey, who is growing tired of ton moms trying to trap him into marriage.

Note to author: With a bit more snarky humor you can enjoy the popularity of J. Quinn or T. Dare or add more bigger issue sentimal angst and join M. Balogh. A bit more historic political detail and visual description would enrich your books for me. Please consider adding some of your books to public library audiobook apps to build egalitarian your audience.

Why...why...why...is Chapter 1 of Book 1 stuck onto the end of the book 2 audiobook?
