The Void

In space, Commander Mitch Granger and his crew are nearing the end of their scientific mission – along with their covert satellite photography for the military. As they prepare for reentry, an unknown object emerges from the void; the name given to deep, dark space.

The object proves impossible to evade. The crew have one option left – to bring the fragment aboard.

Immediately, all contact with the shuttle is lost. NASA watches helplessly as their craft breaks orbit and heads back to Earth where it crashes high up in the Revelation Mountains of Alaska.

The space agency puts together an emergency recovery team, but the Russians also want the US military photographic data onboard. The race is on to be the first to the crash site, nearly 10,000 feet up in one of the most inhospitable places on Earth. But there is another problem. Satellite images show that something else came down in the shuttle, something moving about when no one should be alive. And that seems to be growing at an alarming rate.

NASA needs help, and protection. Send in the HAWCs. But even HAWC captain Alex Hunter, the last super-soldier of the Arcadian program, has never come up against a threat so old, and from so far ...

damned good read or listen

beck is brilliant...
story concept and plot twist are nothing short of nail biting....As the reader you will find yourself yelling out loud with hunters triumphs and struggles...
Sean sometimes grates on your ears with
word mis fires and diction delivery but...
then again maybe that's his style....?
all in all loved this one....

Another great listen by Greg Beck.

I know that there is a lot of junk in space but I try not to dwell on life form's that can harm or even destroy all life on Earth. That's why I love to listen to Greg Beck's wonderful novels. I listen, I get the willie's up and down my spine, and then I try to forget about that possibility. This one is going to be hard to forget the bad things.

Unfortunate... the writer decided to increase foul language & nudity

I was really enjoying this series, but will stop reading because these stories don't need sexual content or the language to keep getting worse.

Another hit

I chose this rating because he always does a great job at storytelling. I love his narrator, he pronounce a few words differently but I just smile as I have listened to him in several books now. If you enjoy sci-fi there is no better writer.

Not his best

The idea behind this story was up to par with Mr. Beck's excellent style but, unlike him, the story dragged with continuous descriptions of the creatures encountered to the point of boredom ... something I thought I'd never say about one of his books!!
