Deeply Interesting

I am not sure I agree with previous critiques stating the heroine devolves. I think at the very end, perhaps she finally acts on years of thought, feelings, a sense of imprisonment.
There were one or two places where the storyline fails in continuity, but overall a marvellous weaving of historical facts and a deeply passionate fiction. I was left with questions, however, that are prosaic and fear will never be answered. Performance was a pleasure!

A little long

While the writing was good and I really enjoyed learning about Trinidad, the story itself did not keep me engaged. I felt it was longer than it had to be, and I never connected with the characters.

Lucious

Beautifully written and narrated, this novel reminded me of a ripe, juicy mango, exotic, tart and sweet. Poetic, rhythmical and lyrical, with bold, well drawn characters this novel captured my interest and deeply reverberated my emotions. I enjoyed journeying through the life cycles, marriage, relationship and political upheavals of the protagonists which takes place in Tahiti. Loved the accents, and really enjoyed this audiobook.

Interesting, enlightening, and entertaining

The audio book brought the story of Trinidad and the characters to life in an amazing way. It was required reading for college, but nonetheless, the historical fiction was enlightening and entertaining. Some portions were slightly vulgar, but the author painted a realistic, raw picture of the post colonial island.

Best Narration ever

Phenomenal delivery. I absolutely loved the way this book was narrated so proficiently and with such heart.
