The highly anticipated sequel to the #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black's stunning adult debut, Book of Night. This program features multicast narration.

"[Narrator Sara] Amini's narration captures Charlie's trademark cynicism, as well as her heartbreak and feelings of vulnerability... As more characters are introduced, Amini expertly differentiates them, including several sinister-sounding shadows." — AudioFile (Earphones Award Winner)

Night is made of shadows and shadows have teeth.

Charlie Hall, glue trap for disaster, crooked from the day she was born, who’d never met a bad decision she wasn’t willing to double down on, may have finally met her match.

After defeating Salt and stealing her lover—the powerful shadow, Vince—back from under the noses of the powerful Cabal leaders, she thought she’d won. Agreeing to become the Hierophant and risking her life hunting down dangerous rogue shadows seemed a small price to pay if she got to do it while being tethered to Vince.

But Vince is no longer the man she loved. The tethering process wiped away his memories of the last year, leaving only Red—the ruthless shadow who spent years as a killer for a cruel, mercurial billionaire. Red doesn’t remember Charlie and doesn’t like her.

So when Charlie is ordered to track down the Blight responsible for a massacre at a local church, she’s worse than just alone, heartbroken, and outmatched. She’s vulnerable. In a world where shadows have wills of their own, the question isn’t just how to survive. It’s how to protect yourself from the one thing you can never escape—your own shadow.

It was so exciting to revisit this series. The first book touched my life just as grief did. It was a nice escape. This one was just as compelling, It made me wish I had a quickened shadow I could send to shake up a few doctors, coroners, politicians and liars. At the end I caught myself wishing my husband's shadow could be here. Great story.

Oh Charlie I'm so....

I really enjoyed this story. Very unique theme as far as fantasy fiction goes. I didn't always follow what each title a person (or not person) had for what they were/could do and whatnot but it wasn't super confusing or anything like that. Reading a physical copy for something like that helps me follow each persons ability and what that means so listening to the audiobook made it only slightly difficult for the visual person I am. Either way really loved this ending. It was very.... sweet? and on point. :)

Great ending to an interesting duology.

This might be my new favorite Holly Black book. While it took me reading the Book of Night twice to really like it, this book had me from the start all the way through that ending.

While I could have done without the other voices (Red’s was really not a great choice). The rest of the performance was fantastic. If you were annoyed by the slow cadence of the first book, it was 100% better with this one.

Amazing work, Holly Black, I can’t wait to read more adult focused stories from you!

This is a GREAT book!

This hooked me! Holly Black delivers a world full of secrets, sharp magic, and characters who feel real in their flaws and motivations. The protagonist’s journey is compelling, the twists land perfectly, and the writing is vivid without ever slowing the pace.

If you love morally gray characters, shadowy worlds, and stories that keep you guessing, this book is a it!!!! Highly recommend.

Exciting, unpredictable and so satisfying!!!
