DI Nikki Galena gets a series of anonymous calls. She is told the place, time, and who will die. But the messages are in a secret language used only by villains. Nikki and her team must decode the riddles and work out where the threats are coming from.

Meanwhile, the fens have been hit by a series of "designer burglaries". It appears that a new gang of thieves are stealing to order. And things get very close to home when a friend of Nikki's mother dies suddenly and, perhaps, suspiciously.

Do any of these events relate, and can Nikki stop the thieves on the fens before anyone else dies?

Full of twists and turns, this is a crime thriller that will keep you in suspense until its heart-stopping conclusion.

Joy Ellis has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her Fens books are automatic pre-orders for me. I am now looking to start reading her other books.

This latest Nikki Galena book is, again, fantastic. The characters and the story make me want to never put it down. I remember seeing 3am while listening to this book. There are two forces tugging at Nikki and her team. One, an anonymous caller using code to get revenge and lead her to a murder (it may be hers!) and the other a threat to her mother and her former RAF/MOD friends. Good stuff!

And there's Joseph... always a wonderful person to have around.

If I'm allowed one tiny complaint, there was an inconsistency regarding the police officer investigating Eve's house. He was referred to as DC and then as DS. A minor point.

The narration was quite good. I certainly hope we haven't seen the last of Nikki, Joseph, and the rest of the team.

This series is SO good

Another brilliant crime story. Joy Ellis story shows many levels of thievery both literal and personal. The real crime by the thief produces long-term emotional scars than objects taken. The "Thieves on the Fen" depicts stories of potential opportunities lost, the What-Ifs, by decisions made an individual and how they reconcile it. The police story is straight forward. The angst of the people involved, both police and villain, is beautifully described. Great story and narration.

Life of What-Ifs verses that of Oh-Well

This is my favorite book in this series so far. It kept me guessing and I loved the addition of Eve as a central character and her fellow RAF girls.

My favorite in the series

I absolutely LOVE the characters in this series and the respect and friendship this group of comrades share. I also really like how the characters continue on through the series with new characters sprinkled in. I wish they were real people, as they are so lovely!

Another Awesome Story with Nikki, Joseph, et al.
