When you're all that stands between the murderous past and the fate of those you love, how far would you go to save them?

When Audrey Kepler inherits an abandoned homestead in rural Queensland, she jumps at the chance to escape her loveless existence in the city and make a fresh start. In a dusty back room of the old house, she discovers the crumbling photo of a handsome World War II medic - Samuel Riordan, the homestead's former occupant - and soon finds herself becoming obsessed with him. But as Audrey digs deeper into Samuel's story, she discovers he was accused of bashing to death a young woman on his return from the war in 1946. When she learns about other unexplained deaths in recent years - one of them a young woman with injuries echoing those of the first victim - she begins to suspect that the killer is still very much alive. And now Audrey, thanks to her need to uncover the past, has provided him with good reason to want to kill again.

I realize that I start many reviews with the same caveat about the star rating. I wish Audible allowed half stars. When I see a reviewer I trust give a book four stars, I pay attention...but would probably dismiss three stars. "Thonwood House" is not worth four stars (it is not quite as good as Kate Morton's novels, even though it definitely wants to be in the same category). On the other hand, it is not dismissible. The story certainly kept my interest. The plot had some unexpected turns. I will definitely download the next one by this author.

Should have been 3 and 1/2 stars

Interesting story but far too wordy/descriptive. I lost interest several times because of the lengthy descriptions.

Interesting but too long

somewhat convoluted, and very drawn out... there was one point I thought I'd go mad if she referred to her "beloved Sa-lee-ka" one more time! luckily it was about that time she stopped! all in all an ok story but glad I got it on sale.

Sa-lee-ka

Couldnt stop listening, beautiful descriptive detail transported me to each scene. A seemingly gentle start unravelled into intrigue and suspense. Fabulously read.

Compelling!
