The main secret of the success of skilled beekeepers is having the proper book of knowledge.

It is the knowledge that helps to create large apiaries, get good yields of bee products, and increase profits. Ignorance only spoils and destroys everything.

In To Bee: A Budding Beekeeper’s Book, you will learn about:

  • the nature and biology of the bee colony;
  • the art of its progressive growth;
  • food supply and pollination of plants;
  • methods of breeding work in the apiary;
  • the use of natural resources for the production of bee products.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced beekeeper, To Bee: A Budding Beekeeper’s Book has prepared the right materials for everyone.

In an age where so many people are growing their own vegetables, seeking ways to be self sufficient and where the need to save Mother Earth is more crucial than ever, Jakes introduces the art of beekeeping.

There are so many benefits to running an apiary, to yourself, your wallet, humanity and mother nature, and they're all explained here. If it's a hobby you wish to pursue or have often though about it, this book is for you. There is so much involvement and Jakes explains it all deeply, it would definitely keep you out of mischief.

I would suggest you read a paperback or kindle copy rather than listen to an audio copy because one of the chapters talks about recipes involving honey and you'd be better off following written instructions when it comes to cooking. Otherwise this is a fascinating and educational listen. I learnt from Jakes that there are roughly 20,000 known bee species.

Fantastic work but better off reading

Was provided a copy of this audiobook to listen and review. Just finishing an intensive university extension class on beekeeping, and wondered just how anyone could cover this complex topic in a short audiobook. The short answer is, you can't, but it does provide a lot of information and food for thought for those thinking about getting into it. Without being overly daunting and turning folks off, I think it gives a necessary reality check on what needs to be considered before venturing forth. It does not replace a mentor or further research and learning to keep a healthy hive. One complaint; why the reference to hives as "families?" That's a first for me. Good job overall, tho.

Good introduction, realistic information
