Gloucestershire, 1813. Miss Mary Lound of Tapley End would be the first to say that she demonstrates more grace with a fishing rod in her hand than she might ever twirling in a ballroom. This was not, however, a problem until her ne'er-do-well brother sold the family estate, leaving Mary and her mother in very straitened circumstances. When the new owner, Sir Rowland Kempsey, takes up residence, Mary decides to direct her energies into recovering her beloved home by catching a husband.

Promisingly Sir Rowland thinks Miss Lound is a breath of fresh air. But with awkward attempts at flirtation, a duplicitous predator at large in the neighbourhood and the emergence of feelings that complicate her pragmatic goal, Mary discovers that landing the man she wants is more difficult than she had anticipated.

💖 Two leads point of view (love this because why shouldn't we know how they both grow in affection?)
🐢 Slow burn (yes please because is there any better love story to read than a slow burn?)
🏆 Marvelously narrated (it's always a treat with this narrator. You can tell he loves his job! And I love him for it!!)
💐 Tastefully satirical, witty, smart, VERY TRANSPORTING, and such a hilarious good time!

Our leading man is gentle, firm, sensible, a manly man who is manning in all the best ways. If I was a mother to a daughter of a good age I would gladly marry her off to him 😂😂😂. I really really liked him!!!

Tough, rough around the edges but likable female lead. Written in an endearing but unforced way. I like her.

Delightful secondary characters who make a fun little community around our mains.

Romantic in such a beautiful natural way. I really loved that the main pair interacted a lot and that their affection grew in a way that affection would in a real life setting!! This was done so well!! Sophia come get your flowers ma'am. This was top tier work!!!

Also please write more clean Regency romance stories! Happily waiting to hear about your next release 🤗

I love Sophia Holloway’s smart style of writing and her sharp humor. Mary is a realistic blend of brash confidence that hides deep insecurity. Sir Rowland’s attraction to her is heartwarming and his responses to her behavior are mature and thoughtful. I appreciated this aspect a great deal as I tire of authors leaning on the miscommunication trope so often.

Also, Matt Addis is a fantastic narrator. The timbre of his voice reminds me of Alex Wyndham. I could listen to him read dictionary entries.

Clever Story

I loved that most of the characters were likable. It enjoyed the lack of intense angst, which made it a nice, relaxing, and mostly, straightforward love story.

Sweet

Excellent narrator enhances this story, which will especially appeal to fans of Jane Austen. It's a pleasure to follow the thoughts and emotions of a small cast of characters as they navigate falling in love. An unusual heroine adds to the plot which, although simple, is enjoyable.

Delightful

A brilliant chamber music triumph.. the heroine is so beautifully crafted ! Humor and heart and eccentricities all so lovable! The different characters The mother ,the local beauty ,the brothers ,the friends all alive with particular honed traits ! Wit is flashing from every page !!!!!
