________________

Jack Ryan, Jr. is on a path that leads to international destruction.

The quiet of a Texas night is shattered by the sounds of screeching brakes, crumpling metal and, most shockingly, rapid gunfire. The auto accident Jack Ryan, Jr. thought he witnessed turned out to be a professional hit. Jack may be too late to save the victim, but he'll be damned if he's going to let the hitters escape justice.

He's got just one lead - a meeting the victim was going to. When Jack shows up instead, he's drawn into the seedy underbelly of a small Texas town and the cold case of a college student who vanished from its streets.

Jack is left with nothing but questions. Who wants it to look like the victim was drunk? Why does someone want an innocent witness killed? And most of all, what's a team of South African hitmen doing in the Lone Star State?

His quest for answers will take Jack from a quiet Texas road to the middle of an international conspiracy - and may just cost him his life.

Critic reviews

Constantly taps the current world situation for its imminent dangers and spins them into an engrossing tale
Exhilarating. No other novelist is giving so full a picture of modern conflict
A brilliantly constructed thriller that packs a punch
Heart-stopping action . . . entertaining and eminently topical

If you like the series you’ll love this. But boy is it verbose. Note to editors, every paragraph doesn’t need a backstory.

Bentley completely lost his way on this last book, I was never a fan of his way of writing, but thought he did a good job on Flash Point, so it got me looking foward to this one. I was disappointed.
The story had potential, was not a bad one, but the way he conducted the book was horrible. The story is during the span of a little over 24 hours. But my impression is that he had to make words to put it on the book and have enough pages, he does that by giving WAY TOO MUCH DETAILS, on things that were completely unnecessary. Sometimes, the book is straight up boring due to the excess of details.
In my opinion, Bentley also makes Jack Jr take decisions that don’t make any sense, such as not calling for help until it is too late. I won’t say much in order not to spoil the book.
I was really wishing that this was a good book. The best part was the narrator, but even he couldn’t do a miracle.
