Hiding from the mob, journalist Nathan Davies chronicles the amazing life and times of the notorious gentleman thief, Zachary Landon. Living under a government issued identity, Davies finds himself tangled in the web of Landon's bold and expanding criminal enterprise and as the risk increases so does the danger. Scars, love, murder and marriage all come into play as Davies' friendship grows with Landon and a mutual trust is built. Even with his freedom on the line, the size of the score is of no concern. For Landon, whom you target is more important than what you target. You can gamble with your freedom, but always be Two Steps Ahead.

If you could sum up Two Steps Ahead in three words, what would they be?

Many diverse situations

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nathan Davies the narrative character and the gentleman thief, Zachary Landon. The Nathan character relates the stories.

Which character – as performed by Rich McVicar – was your favorite?

I think these questions must be randomly generated based on your star ratings, but this was answered above. Rich McVicar did a nice job. I THINK, I did catch an odd pronunciation on a pretty common word - "aliases - was pronounced "ah le ah sis". I went back and replayed it tomake sure.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This seemed to be a series of vignettes based around a long misdirection plot, assumed identities. It was entertaining but my advice is to pay attention or it won't come together in the telling.

Any additional comments?

Overall this was good entertainment. I appreciate the opportunity to review this title.

What made the experience of listening to Two Steps Ahead the most enjoyable?

What made the listening most enjoyable is the combination of the fantastic narration and the enjoyable exploits of Zachary Landon. These shorts stories are just a treat for the ears. Sometimes in our busy lives it is nice to not have to invest ourselves in a 10 hour story and have nice quick but well written, logical, and truly entertain story to hear.

What did you like best about this story?

What i liked best about this series of stories is the that they are so enjoyable. They have no bright shining knights but just a man in grey grey has a code he seems to operate buy and a foe in the police that is always one step behind. A friend who he appears to confide in when the whim suits him. It is really just a nice little world to visit.

What does Rich McVicar bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr McVicar brings a rich fullness to the characters. They become unique individuals in my minds eye that I can picture very clearly. He does an excellent job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was a book that I wanted to listen to in one sitting and had to refrain from doing so in order to go about my day in a orderly man much to my annoyance. Mr Hoffman has created characters and a world that is fun to get lost within.

I received this audio book free from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.

I believe that a narrator's performance breathes additional life into a book and this book is no exception. I am a fan of Rich McVicar and he is a great match for this short collection of adventures of the gentleman thief as told by an admittedly obsessed journalist.

This book contains individual episodes in Landon's life, each keeping you guessing about how/if he will elude arrest. Too short to be nail biters and just long enough to hold my interest.

The publisher's summary is misleading in this second book of the series, because with the first episode, much is left to chance.

I love a charming protagonist
