From New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell, the sequel to The Archer's Tale—the spellbinding tale of a young man, a fearless archer, who sets out wanting to avenge his family's honor and winds up on a quest for the Holy Grail.

In 1347, a year of conflict and unrest, Thomas of Hookton returns to England to pursue the Holy Grail. Among the flames of the Hundred Years War, a sinister enemy awaits the fabled archer and mercenary soldier: a bloodthirsty Dominican Inquisitor who also seeks Christendom's most holy relic. But neither the horrors of the battlefield nor sadistic torture at the Inquisitor's hands can turn Thomas from his sworn mission. And his thirst for vengeance will never be quenched while the villainous black rider who destroyed everything he loved still lives.

""Cornwell writes the best battle scenes of any writer I've read past or present.""—George R.R. Martin

This is a continuation of the story of Thomas of Hookton, begun in 'The Archer's Tale'. We meet up again with characters introduced in the first installment, such as Jannette, Sir Will Skeet, and new character are introduced, such as a nefarious Inquisitor. Several good battles, some surprises, good, good, good. And the narrator is absolutely excellent, and can play the voices of French and Scottish, as well as English, perfectly. Highly recommended!

Outstanding action in the Middle Ages!

Great book that is part of a great series. Must read.

Take note, this version (6+ hours) is the abridged version. This was not mentioned anywhere in the mobile app.

This is the abridged version!

This is a great story and a continuation of this 4 book series by Cornwell. I've read the book and greatly enjoyed it. However, be very careful. There's a very abridged 6-hour version of the audio book and an unabridged 13-hour version. Make sure that you are buying the 13-hour version. I ignorantly bought the abridged version first and this version is jarring and missing important plot elements. I've since bought the unabridged version and the missing parts are restored.

Great story, but bad audio book

I love this narrator. The story really comes alive in his telling. As usual, Cornwells story is action packed and intriguing. Can’t wait to finish the trilogy.

Excellent middle part of the trilogy.
