A war of magic and arms is being fought to the East, while young Anders Brolly attempts to learn what he can of the arcane arts, in order to resist the ancient menace which plagues his home, and perhaps the entire world. Farad Ibn Istel, the historian from an ancient time, trapped in the boy’s mind, blended with him by an evil man, in order to save the child’s life, seeks to aid the child, as best he can in these endeavors. A task which is often difficult and at times horrifying. Sent to the front lines, on a mission of magic, they must work together to survive. Nothing is assured. Ever.

Magic

I enjoyed the fantasy storyline. Seeing things through the eyes of a preteen that must grow up very quickly by doing horrible things to protect himself, his family, and his country gives an interesting perspective. Anders has much to do and to deal with, yet it seems as though there is no one to help him or support him more than superficially. His family expects much from such a young person.
