What if Mr. Darcy’s dog recognized Elizabeth Bennet’s worth… before his master could admit his own heart?

When Elizabeth Bennet arrives at Hunsford Parsonage, she expects three tedious weeks of Mr. Collins’s pomposity and Lady Catherine’s condescension. She does not expect to be claimed—immediately, dramatically, and in front of everyone—by an enormous Irish wolfhound who belongs to the last man in England she wishes to see.

Caractacus has never shown interest in any woman.

Until Elizabeth.

Now the great grey beast follows her everywhere: pressing against her skirts at dinner, resting his head on her feet during Lady Catherine’s lectures, and leading his mortified master directly into her path at every turn.

Fitzwilliam Darcy has spent months conquering his impossible attraction to Elizabeth Bennet. But watching his loyal companion do what he cannot—go to her without hesitation, claim her without pride—forces him to confront a devastating truth: his dog has better instincts than he does.

When old secrets surface and new truths emerge, Darcy must decide whether to let his heart follow where his wolfhound leads. And Elizabeth must ask herself an uncomfortable question: if a creature who cannot lie sees something worthy in Mr. Darcy… might she have been wrong about him all along?

A sweet Pride and Prejudice variation where the path to love has four legs, a noble heart, and absolutely no patience for pride or prejudice.

Features: Matchmaking wolfhound • Hunsford setting • Lady Catherine’s horror • The Hunsford letter (delivered by dog!) • Mortified hero • Elizabeth’s wit • Forced proximity via pet • Mr. Collins comedy • Slow-burn sweetness • Only soft for her (both dog AND Darcy) • Guaranteed tail-wagging HEA

This novella is written for a lover of P&P and dogs. Large ones. Short as it is, the story was complete and had a satisfying ending. I listened to the audio version which was done by virtual voice. That is never great but this female voice is one of the better virtual narrators. I liked the low angst story well enough to enjoy listening to it despite the mediocre narration.

Anyone who has ever had a dog will thoroughly enjoy this story. The dog behaviors are portrayed with such realism, it's simply delightful. Wrapping the romance of Darcy and Elizabeth around the story of the dog is a unique plot device. This is a fun read.

I enjoyed the novella, especially as a dog lover. It was a playful handling of part of the story, with mostly symptomatic characters.

Cute take and well written.

When the good people are improved by a very good dog, it’s a good start to a great story. Very entertaining.
