As a doomsday asteroid hurtles toward Earth, NASA’s last-ditch mission to save humanity hinges on one thing: drilling deep enough to plant a nuclear payload that can destroy the rock before impact. Leading the mission is Commander Ava Sharpe—sharp-witted, battle-hardened, and emotionally walled off since a catastrophic mission three years earlier cost her two crewmates... and the woman she loved.
That woman is Sara Lance—a gifted driller who walked away from NASA and from Ava after the failed rescue that still haunts them both. But when Sara learns Ava is being sent on what’s likely a suicide mission, she refuses to let her go alone.
Forced to work together in close quarters, surrounded by a ragtag crew of astronauts, miners, and misfits—including the snarky Nate, fearless Laurel, awkward Gary, brilliant Nora, and a pyro named Mick—Ava and Sara must confront not only the looming end of the world, but also the unfinished story between them.
As the mission unravels in space—with unexpected losses, shifting asteroid terrain, and betrayals from Earth command—sacrifice becomes inevitable. When fate demands one of them stay behind to detonate the bomb manually, love and leadership collide in a devastating, unforgettable way.
But when all hope is lost, a single signal cuts through the silence.
They went to the stars to save the world.
But they may have saved each other instead.

What does stay the same is that Ava and Sara still love each other.
In this storyline of a Ava and Sara work for NASA. that is until a mission goes wrong and they lose two of their crew. Sara leaves Ava and NASA.
Then they get pulled into each other's orbits again because of a mission to save the Earth from a giant asteroid.
While I like the stories, it is hard to listen to at times due to the virtual voice. So many mispronunciation of words, no emotions or inflections, and the voice of characters varies very very little.
