Jean Travis has the job of announcing the latest lottery winner on TV and is stunned to find that Patrick Bennett, her teenage crush, is the top mega winner. They haven't seen each other in years, and Patrick is thrilled to renew their acquaintance. Jean, not so much. After all, a lot has changed since they used to study together, and Jean worked so hard to hide her feelings.

February Book Club Selection

The book delves into the complexities faced by Jean, who is biracial, adding a unique layer to her experiences. However, the main plot revolves around Patrick, a former athlete turned sportscaster, who wins $75 million in the lottery. This sudden wealth impacts his relationship with Jean and his adjustment to his new lifestyle.

While the premise was intriguing, I found myself almost giving up on the book due to the writing style. The lack of communication between the lead characters was frustrating, and at times, I struggled to connect with the story.

Overall, “Winner Takes All” explores themes of wealth, relationships, and identity, but falls short in execution.

Loved the characters and the plot which kept me listening for the entire book. Jean was level headed yet her parents did a number on her feeling.

cant finish this. its the narrative. its the speed of the book. its the unrealistic interactions between the main leads. just awful slow and so very boring
