Just when Suzy Maycomber is getting settled at the Academy in Hemlock, trouble strikes again.

Suzy discovers one of her classmates murdered in the basement of the school, and the only witness is a ghost that speaks in riddles and rhymes. Determined to unmask the killer, Suzy enlists the help of Snowball and Alfie...but something doesn't feel right. The toil and trouble doubles when almost everyone in Hemlock begins acting differently, including Alfie.

Can Suzy cast her way out of another case of murder, mystery, and mayhem, or will whatever is taking over the town get her, too?

A very suspense filled story. It's fun, exciting, with a little scare factor too! It's a fun cozy mystery book. I loved it!

Cute short story.
The main character's awkwardness attending school with younger people was relatable.
I can't stand cliffhanger endings. I'll give it a pass since the next book is available.
The biggest issue for me is the first-person narration, VERY annoying.

More, I want more of this series. Lori Woods is one of the best new cozy mystery writers I have read/listen to this year. Her characters are warm and become more like friends than characters. I highly recommend this book and series to fans of paranormal cozy mysteries.

2nd book and the "I say" and "I think" definitely detract from the story

repetitive phrases

Ok, first book in the series got a pass under the assumption that it was from a brand new writer and a narrator who truly didn’t do anything to help the book. I very nearly didn’t make it through the second, and have no intentions of listening to the rest of the series at this point. The voice of snowball (still no idea why a black cat is named that…) is beyond obnoxious, the mc is, imo, an idiot, and with the writer’s inability to find alternatives to “he says/she says/I say”, I can’t do it. He exclaimed, she whined, I growled… just a few options that would have made the writing more bearable, but fail to make an appearance.

If I have to hear “she says/he says” one more time…
