When an ambitious entrepreneur pretends to be a lady of means, she catches the eye—and heart—of a duke...

Jessica McGale’s family business desperately needs investors and she’s determined to succeed at any cost. But she knows London’s elite will never look twice at a humble farm girl like herself. Posing as “Lady Whitfield,” however, places her in the orbit of wealthy, powerful people—most notably the Duke of Rotherby. His influence and support could save her company, but Jess never expected the effect he’d have on her.

Society thinks Noel is a notorious, carefree duke who dabbles in investments, but there’s a side to him that only his closest friends see. When he crosses paths with Lady Whitfield at a business bazaar, his world tilts on its axis. She’s brilliant and compelling, and brings him to his knees like no woman has before. Trust is difficult for Noel, but Jess makes him believe anything is possible. . .

As time ticks down on her Cinderella scheme, the thought of achieving her goal at Noel’s expense breaks Jess’s heart. He doesn’t just want her now, he wants her forever. But will her secret end their future before it begins?

I really liked this book. It was different from most regency romances in that that the heroine (Jess) was not a naive virgin, and hero (Noel) was not a damaged brooder. They were both well-adjusted and honest about their feelings for each other.

I also really enjoyed the sex scenes. I was so happy that there was actually oral sex, which I think is missing from most historical romances. There was some slight domination that was appropriate and sexy.

I realize the story is really realistic, but I don't read/listen to these for reality. I recommend!

Finally oral sex!

I liked the first one better but I will listen to the next one unless it's the same lady to read it. The Scots accent was painful! otherwise she did a fine job.

Good but the Scottish accent is silly

I enjoyed this so much. I love the subversion of dynamics so much. And I adore this reader she’s just one of my favorites. And you know a story is good when I am brought to tears at the emotional climax. 10/10

Tears are the mark of a good story

The personalities were more fun in this story. The reader was Very good. I wasn’t sure about listening to a second book after book one but I do want to hear a third one after book 2.

Better than book one

Gave up about chapter 15. I don’t care about these people and was looking forward to listening to something else. So I quit and went on to something else.

Did not finish.
