Six expeditions have been lost trying to cross a strange barrier in space. Now, a seventh crew is about to try. This episode of X Minus One originally aired on April 24, 1955.

X Minus One premiered in April 1955 on NBC and ran until January 1958. Like its predecessor series, Dimension X, X Minus One featured stories by the greatest names in modern science fiction: Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Clifford Simak, Robert Bloch, and many more.

Critic reviews

"[ X Minus One] brought current SF to radio, providing adaptations of many excellent new stories and thus allowing the public to appreciate the best science fiction available at the time." (Michael Ashley, The Time Machines: The Story of the Science-Fiction Pulp Magazines)

Where does X Minus One rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a great radio show from the 50's using some of the best sci fi writers at the time. I would rank it in the top 5 of radio programs.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked the grizzly captain of the ship. He gives everything to warn the earth of the dangers.

What does the narrator bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This is a radio play, so don't think of it as narration. The actors are great for their parts.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Knock, knock. Who's there?

Any additional comments?

Why is there a wall that space ships can't cross? What will happen when this ship makes an attempt? Is there anyone out there?

Watch out for the aliens next door!
