AI pronunciation

Great story and characters. This series was easy to follow but the AI narration was bad. Constantly mispronouncing words.

Don't Let The Virtual Voice Keep You From Trying This One!

First of all, yes, this book is narrated by AI virtual voice. HOWEVER, before you walk away, virtual narration has come a long, LONG way in the past few years and is no longer the flat, emotionless, inflectionless computer voice we all know and hate (like the Android system voice or the crappy "accessibility" voice that comes with Kindle). While it's nowhere near ready to replace real human narrators, it's still a lot better than it used to be. Now there's variety in tone of voice and inflection, organic pauses, and it's obvious when characters are speaking vs narrative text. It's also obvious when characters are shouting, asking questions, etc., making the whole experience much more enjoyable.

The only thing I'd suggest the author/publisher to change would be to remove the sections where the narration reads off the chapter numbers and titles at the beginning of books 2-5 (or whatever the last book number is, I forget). It's a full 2+ minutes of droning chapter, title, chapter, title, that adds absolutely nothing to the story or the experience. Oh, and fix the pronunciation of "bow"; it seems like all AI narrators pronounce it like the verb "böw", as in the thing you do in the presence of royalty, instead of the noun "bōw", like bow and arrow. There are also a few other verb vs noun pronunciation issues but that's the one that keeps coming up and it is a little annoying. The occasional typos (like "spilt" instead of "split") are plainly obvious as well but just kind of make me laugh.

As for the story itself, it both is and isn't a typical zompoc. There are some variations on the traditional zombie that make things more interesting. The characters are well developed and easy to become invested in. There's plenty of action, suspense, and the occasional, well placed moments of humor. Plus, the author isn't afraid to kill off main characters, so you can't get too comfortable. Overall it's very well written, easy to get sucked in to, and hard to turn off.

Similar series that I've enjoyed include Adrian's Undead Diary by Chris Philbrook and Zombie Rules by David Achord.

I would love to see another series with this. I want to know what happens 10 years from the end and maybe a prequel. Please do a prequel to this, where we learn all of the Governor and Sam secrets that have to do with the start of it and maybe a day one for it, or something!

I really enjoyed these books... Great story and great characters! Really well done! The virtual voice isn't perfect, but it's not that bad.
