  • The Art of Dealing with Difficult People | The Charleston Chicks, Ep 13
    Feb 25 2026

In this episode of The Charleston Chicks Podcast, we discuss how to handle difficult people you can’t avoid, from workplace conflicts to tense holiday family moments. Drawing on more than 20 years of HR leadership, Melanie shares the truth: most people can be difficult at any given time. In the workplace, that often shows up as "confusion" about policies, when in reality it's disagreement. Sometimes the same conversation gets repeated in hopes of getting a different answer. She shares a real-life example of policy pushback and explains how listening fully, holding firm boundaries, and calmly reinforcing that the policy stands can bring resolution

The hosts also reflect on how anyone can be perceived as difficult when they don’t feel heard, and the importance of self-awareness. They highlight strategies like choosing to respond rather than react, using silence as a powerful “musical rest” after a rude comment, not fueling escalation, maintaining empathy without excusing bad behavior, and using calm, inquisitive language such as “help me to understand” to de-escalate and help others feel heard.

  • The Lies We Were Taught | The Charleston Chicks Ep 12
    Feb 18 2026

If you’re in your 40s or 50s and exhausted from trying to “do it all,” this one’s definitely for you. We were told we could have it all career, marriage, kids, the clean house, the energy... and when it felt impossible, we quietly carried the guilt.

In this episode, we’re calling out the lies we were taught, like don’t brag, stay humble, don’t make waves (and for God's sake, don’t age) and talking about how to unlearn them, not just for ourselves, but for the generations of women coming after us.

If you’ve ever felt like you were failing at balance or shrinking in rooms you were more than qualified to lead, pull up a chair. This conversation feels like the kitchen table with women who get it. And if it resonates, send it to a friend who needs to know she’s not alone.
