Katia was introduced to tango as a young girl by her mother, who runs a dance school in Kazan, Russia. While it was not love at first sight, she was later inspired by a performance by Dana Frigoli and Adrian Ferreyra in St. Petersburg, and came to study with them at DNI Tango in Buenos Aires. She now runs a dance school, La Fuente Tango, with a group of teachers she trained and studied with. She shares her tango journey and the choices she made along the way.

Amy discovered tango in 2010 during a difficult time in her life. She now spends the British winter in Buenos Aires and the Argentine winter in the UK. She shares how she fell in love with tango and the city of Buenos Aires, and how she manages her work and family life with this migratory lifestyle.

Steve is a self-confessed tango addict, and runs a popular monthly milonga in Oxford, the Oxford Milonga ('a welcoming inclusive traditional milonga in the heart of Oxford'). I talk to him about his motivation for starting a milonga over three years ago, what his vision had been, how it had developed, and his thoughts on its future.

Two years ago, Ann decided that improving her dancing required two things: dancing more, and dancing with good dancers. Since then, she has travelled extensively throughout Europe, attending various tango festivals, marathons, and encuentros. I catch up with her at Tarbes airport, fresh from the Tarbes en Tango festival, to hear about her discoveries so far this year. Ann discusses her recent focus on Eastern Europe and shares her impressions on why tango seems to be more popular among the younger generation there compared to Western Europe.

Dante recently competed in the European Tango Championship in Italy with Rebecca, and came first in vals, second in milonga, and reached the final of the tango de pista category. Dante also came second in the solo milonguero category.

I catch up with him just before a local milonga, and we chat in the garden about various aspects of tango competitions, why he competes, how he prepares, and his general reflections about tango competitions.

Tiffany started dancing tango a year ago while finishing her PhD. She talks about her motivation to learn tango, and shares stories from her defining 'firsts': from attending her very first tango class to experiencing her first tango festival. We also discuss her interest in learning to lead, the challenges of adapting to tango etiquette, and what she had learnt about the dance in the past year.

After visiting Buenos Aires for the first time in 2023, Victoria returned to the city in November 2024. She talks about her experience of learning and dancing tango in Buenos Aires, how it differs from her experience in the UK, and her discoveries on her second visit.
