Round the Moon is Jules Verne's sequel to From the Earth to the Moon. Having been fired out of the giant Columbiad space gun, the Baltimore Gun Club's bullet-shaped projectile and its three passengers, Barbicane, Nicholl and Michel Ardan, begins the five-day trip to the moon. A few minutes into the journey, a small, bright asteroid passes within a few hundred yards of them, but luckily does not collide with the projectile. The asteroid had been captured by the Earth's gravity and had become a second moon. The three travelers undergo a series of adventures and misadventures during the rest of the journey.

Although published under the name of Jules Verne, “In the Year 2889” is now believed to be chiefly, if not entirely, the work of Jules' son, Michel Verne. In any event, many of the topics in the story echo Verne's ideas. A rather humorous look at the future.

Jules Gabriel Verne (1828-1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright who is sometimes credited as the original 'Father of Science Fiction'. Written in 1851, 'A Drama in the Air' is one of Verne's earliest and most seminal stories, telling the dramatic adventure of a balloonist suddenly confronted with an unexpected and unpredictable passenger who climbs into his balloon at the point of take-off. Many of the themes from this tale were expanded by Verne in his later and better known works about aerial journeys around the world or to the moon.

From this a gentleman's bet is placed, and there is nothing more important to a gentleman than a bet! Mr Fogg's life is thrown into turmoil as he commences the journey around the world.

After learning of a new rail line in India, Phileas Fogg wagers a bet that he can travel the world in 80 days. He takes off on this journey with Monsieur Passepartout. They are followed by an inspector aboard a ship and beyond. The rail line in India ends earlier than was reported so they hire an elephant for the 50-mile gap during which they rescue a young women even though it slows them down. They encounter many exciting and frustrating events in far flung cities around the world.
