The first book of the Bible, the Book of Genesis, in the beautiful poetic language of the King James version, tells the story of creation and traces the genealogy of the chosen people of God. Many called Jeremiah, the “Weeping Prophet” and, as shown in this book, he has every reason to mourn. Jeremiah’s ministry is primarily concerned with preaching the word of God to an idolatrous people. When he comes to realize the Israelites’ refusal to repent, Jeremiah begins to describe a future judgment. Interestingly enough, even todaythe words of this prophet provide us with a study of our own sinfulness.

We do not know when this book was written or who wrote it. We do know that King Solomon is mentioned in this book. This book is a collection of love poems celebrating the love between a couple. The main voice in these poems is that of a woman, while we also have a voice that seems to belong to a man who is not Solomon. The woman seems to be engaged to the man, who is a shepherd. It is virtually impossible to analyze this book as a single poem because it does follow a structure and is quite disjointed. However, we can understand it using key themes.

Narrator Glenn Hascall does a marvelous job narrating Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians from the King James version of the Bible.

It is not known who wrote the Book of Job or when it was written. It is written poetically and is considered wisdom literature. The book starts with a dialogue between God and Satan. God first brings up Job and how noble and pious he is, then Satan contends that it is so because of the wealth and comfort which God has bestowed upon him. God allows Satan to inflict suffering upon Job. As a consequence, Job loses all his wealth, his children die, and he contracts disease.

The Apostle Paul is one of the prominent authors of the New Testament, with 13 of its 27 chapters being letters written by him to churches throughout the world. These letters are foundational to many Christian denominations, as they are instructional for how groups of Christians ought to believe and behave. In addition to being instructional, the letters of Paul are a fascinating look at the ethics and ideals of early organized Christian religious sects.

Songs of Solomon emphasizes the holiness and beauty of marriage through the story of a bridegroom who is in love with his bride. Job is what everyone would consider a “good” person. So why are so many terrible things happening to him? The real question may be: Why does Job continue to give praise to God in the midst of his terrible circumstances? Although he laments and suffers, Job ultimately understands that God is good and is worth praising no matter what.
