Evan never thought he was going to be special. As the adopted son of a tailor, he had always expected to manage the shop after his father passed. But when his Aura awakens, he finds himself entering Yesgol Academy of Magic, a place filled with the children of elite mages and nobles, all of whom have had magical education from the time they could walk. Among such prestigious company, Evan will have to learn fast or be left in the dust and in debt. At Yesgol, he studies the arts of enchanting and divination, but all is not as it seems.

After a stressful first year at Yesgol, Evan Tailor is looking forward to a vacation with his boyfriend and a stress free year of schooling. Unfortunately, life has other plans. Despite his relative success in last year's tournament, Evan can't rest on his laurels. His impending debts loom ever larger, and his strengthening abilities reveal a conspiracy that runs deeper than Yesgol, one that could shake the roots of the very nation in which he lives.

Evan Tailor needs to kill an Archmage. If he can survive a party first. With the Silver Queen calling in her debt, Archmage Roark's oaths binding him into assistance and silence, and new classes pulling at Evan from all sides, this year is not turning out to be the peaceful and prosperous introduction to abjuration magic that Evan had hoped for.

With the pinnacle of his work as an enchanter and freedom fighter growing ever closer to fruition, he needs to find a solution that won't throw all of Paerús into magical bondage to Faerie King Tailor, preferably while saving himself along the way. If that wasn't enough, he needs to manage this while also making sure he is able to retain his job as a teacher. He's given his oath to nurture the next generation of witches and enchanters, and needs to make sure he's able to give them the best education he can.
