On the 300th anniversary of Earth’s first expedition to another solar system, the original colony ship miraculously appears near Saturn. But the crew of Excursion One is nowhere to be found. All that’s left is a broken android, and a string of clues. Captain Calvin Brooks, a hero from the Solar Wars, spends his days trying to forget the past on Link Station, until he’s thrust into danger when he’s asked to pilot the decayed ship back through the wormhole to search for the Ethos colony.

Ethos is real. The crew of Excursion Two made it safely to the colony planet, but where are the colonists? Jane’s ancestor has recovered from nearly three centuries in a damaged cryochamber, but Linus Vanderbilt is holding onto secrets. He warns them never to use the Link, then disappears with his trusted robot assistant, Atticus.

Calvin Brooks returns to Ethos, determined to learn the truth. As an admiral of their fleet, he struggles to conform to Black’s commands, but vows to preserve humanity if it kills him. Luke Dalton is in enemy territory, seeking his captured family. His reunion is short lived as everyone is thrust into battle. Jane, once content to watch history from the pages of a book, must take action to save Ethos… and in turn, Earth.
