For Elsie Thorn, the only magic in her life is somehow being able to make the rent every month. Until a mysterious woman makes her an offer too good to be true. Did she read the contract? With dragon eggs stolen and a murderer on the loose only days before the Broom Racing Festival, Elsie has once again found herself in the hot seat. She’s vowed to get the eggs back–even if she has to team up with her biggest (and most baldheaded) enemy to do it. It should be a straightforward case… until a journalist is found dead at the local inn.

The victim was a loan shark who had plenty of other people who wanted him dead—but everyone else has an ironclad alibi. Until Elsie can prove the chupacabra’s innocence, the entire paranormal menagerie at FLAME Farms is under house arrest. The basilisks are nesting in the dresser drawers, the griffin is clawing up the furniture—and you don’t even want to know what Moonbeam is complaining about.

The victim is someone from Colt Ridgeback’s past… and part of the reason he lives in his mountain cabin, isolated from the warmth of the town.

When Elsie’s friends are accused of murdering a vineyard owner, she’s has to prove their innocence…even if it means uncorking more than a few secrets. It’s easy to see why Wilson is framed for the murder. His mother was fired from the vineyard on bad terms, and everyone in town seems to think he was out for revenge. It doesn’t help that the murder weapon is found in his dragon Bessie’s saddlebag.
