A scared, lonely past and a dangerous secret follow Dr. Aiden Sharp to the peaceful town of Lake Cliff, Illinois, when he arrives to testify in a murder trial for the district attorney.

Some heroes are built a little differently than the rest of us, and some hearts love in a way we’re not used to. Blood spatter and exit wounds make more sense to Aiden than a casual remark or a quick wink. Living faces and expectations have always been more of a mystery to Aiden than the cases he handles for the FBI because of his Asperger’s, but he’s never let it stop him from getting what he wants. He wants Lane as soon as their eyes meet in the airport, but Aiden gets a lot more than he expected when danger arrives with a text message and a threat he can no longer outrun. Luckily, Aiden finds a safe place to hide and learns he actually has a heart, he was just waiting for someone to teach him how to use it.

Detective Lane West is prepared to protect the gorgeous but confusing forensic psychologist from himself and just about anything fate throws at them. But what about Lane’s heart? Despite his best intentions, Lane can’t keep his hands off Aiden, keep it in his pants, or keep his heart out of it as soon as Mr. Morning After works his magic.

Passion and pancakes bring two lonely hearts together, and an errand for the district attorney turns Lake Cliff upside down.

This book made me smile and laugh. The MCs worked well together and how the disability was portrayed was excellent, loved the descriptions on how he feels.

During my teenage years I discovered the rerun radio detective stories from the Golden Age of Radio - thanks KNX 1070 AM Radio). K. Sterling wrote a classic police detective story with all the mystery and excitement of a modern day action/thriller blockbuster movie. On top of the story is the way Mr. Sterling brought the characters to life. I had to listen to it twice to write this review, and I'm sure I missed way more details in the writing/voicing of this story than I noticed

Classic Police Detective Story.

I have to admit, I'm never exactly sure what to expect from this author. But, even with its flaws, this is a scorching listen that kept me engaged.

Aiden has Asperger's, but his portrayal isn't exactly in line with the behaviors of someone on the spectrum. However, this is fiction, and I decided to go with listening in a state of this is the author's world, so it made Aiden's actions and lack of filter (which is common) much more enjoyable.

Lane started out on my bad side. He was a grade A d-bag with the way he had been carrying on. However, even before he met his new charge, he had given up his wicked ways. But, it still seemed like he went a little too far away from having morals.

It took watching the way Lane interacted with Aiden to get me to loosen up about Lane. Unfortunately, his past mistake is an unprofessional idiot who can't or won't let bygones be bygones. The idiot is actually the only reason Aiden has come to town in the first place, but Aiden is treated with disdain and thrown to the wolves when he was only doing his job.

There's an underlying plot throughout the story, and it brings some suspense to the table. You'll have to read/listen to learn more about that. There are some loopholes, some inaccuracies, but the sexy times were hot. So, as this seems to be the beginning of a series, I'd say it's a HFN ending, at least ending with a positive note.

Mr. Sterling did a good job with the narration. My one complaint is that he didn't keep the characters' voices constant throughout the story; especially not Lane's. But, he was a pleasure to listen to and kept the pacing nice.
