Those in the US who get turned on by watching a predator eat a person outnumber the entire population of Massachusetts. A random American is about as likely to be turned on by parent-child roleplay as they are to be Black. And more Americans are turned on by feces than have a PhD.

What the heck is going on here? Why do strange, often inconvenient things activate a system that presumably evolved to compel humans to reproduce? Why do some things arouse some while repulsing others?

Have you ever:

  • Been aroused by something...unexpected?
  • Stumbled upon bizarre porn and wondered how it could possibly turn people on?
  • Wondered why something that turns on many of your friends is super gross to you?

The Pragmatist’s Guide to Sexuality takes a deep dive into research surrounding human sexuality, while also presenting one of the most comprehensive studies into what arouses people, using this data to explore everything, from the social structures of early hominids to the future of dating.

Very helpful and surprising research presented in a way that's easy to follow. The writers are very clearly excited about their findings, which makes the book a fun read. I recommend this book to anybody curious about sexuality!

Excellent information presented in a fun way

A rambling collection of potentially interesting trivia from research and historical sources. The presentation of the material in terms of the reader's style, and production quality, sounds as if a couple friends threw the recording together over a weekend. Some sources are presented, and the reader sounds familiar with topical vocabulary. Sadly, he stumbles through the pronunciation of source names in a way that suggests minimal forethought or preparation. He also tosses in occasional, apparently personal, side commentary that is immature in nature and gives the impression, again, of minimal (if any) thoughtful preparation. In listening to over 1,000 Audible titles, I have never experienced a book so carelessly presented. "Chapters" are often the relation of some particular tidbit or example that what . . . just sounded fun to somebody? There is minimal summary or linkage to a, "So what?", point. The overall impression is that of a collection of results from key word searches and/or blog posts strung together without focus. I am over halfway through, and will finish it, in hopes that something will pull together. But, my hopes are dim.

Childishly Amature in Presentation and Rambling
