It started out a bit slow but then I really started getting into it by chapter 3. It’s low angst. Had a lot more spice than I thought there would be.

A brilliantly written story by Lotte R. James. Engaging and thoughtful, this audio was a delight to listen to from start to finish. The masterful performance by Beatrix Ayliff brought each scene and character to life. Well done!

Well Worth a Listen for Historical Fiction Fans

I picked this audiobook up as part of a quest to find more sapphic historical romances narrated by Beatrix Ayliff and I wasn't disappointed.

Grumpy-sunshine is a trope that's quickly growing on me, and the way both the grump, Artemis, and the sunshine, Ruth, help each other through past trauma was lovely. The undeniable chemistry and resulting spicy scenes were also great. I also liked how the story came full circle in the epilogue, calling back to the first scene when Artemis was introduced and changing the meaning of her actions now that her heart and soul have been repaired.
