Jocelyn Wright would prefer to be outside, with her twin brother, instead of in drawing rooms and social events. She has had to hide her true self, and pretend to be the young lady everyone expects. But, as Jonas gets ready to attend Philadelphia College, the colonies’ rebellion against the crown heats up, and her family is forced to quarter British soldiers. That's when Bennet Hart comes into the picture, and changes come much too fast, for even her.

Jocelyn is not interested in dressing up and knowing her place. She is much more interested in being with her twin brother, Jonas, outside in the middle of things. But that is not what a good girl does, and with permission to court a man who wants just that, she plays the part. But that is all she does, act like the good girl. But when Bennett comes, things change. He loves Jocelyn for who she is. But when things begin to get dangerous, and decisions have to be made between sides of the colonies and England, both she and Jonas know where they stand. Will that save her from the life of boredom with a man she does not even like? Not only is the is fun story to listen to, but the historical references show just how difficult times were, even within the family unit. Loved listening to this one, the secret romance, the faith that would pull them through and the happiness found all made for happy ears!

Craig Van Ness is the narrator for this and his voice is perfect for this time period. He is able to pull out all the personality traits of each character with the inflections and nuances he uses and tells a story well worth hearing.

I really enjoyed this sweet story. It was clean, and kept me interested. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the stories in the series!

I loved listening to this story and immediately went to the next book after this one. I loved both of them! I wondered if I would honestly right off because of the way the narrator sounded, but soon into it realized that it was perfect that way! It was a great historical romance! I can't wait to see if another comes out! Loved it! Definitely give it and listen and go ahead and get the next one!

I enjoyed the story much more than I thought I would when I started listening. In the time period of the Revolutionary War some individuals/families decide that they want to support the "rebels" and do so in secrecy of course.

A set of twins who become spies and almost are caught except someone else steps in. An Officer who is determined to get the girl he wants no matter the cost.

The author does a good job of ups and downs to keep the listener interested and rooting for the love they can see blossoming. I must say, I loved the ending!

The narrator did a good job on this. A little whiny in one male characters voice but I could almost see that character sounding like that.

Listening to the audiobook of A Bird in the Hand was very enjoyable. The narrator was good. Jocelyn would rather spend time with her twin brother, Jonas, then attend parties and teas. Being she’s a good daughter, Joycelyn does what her parents want. When the British soldiers moved into the household, they must watch what they do. When Jocelyn meets Bennett, she is certainly attracted to him. Very nice Christian historical romance.
