With a family crisis looming, Detective Inspector Fiona Williams is hoping to take a break when she is called to a suspicious death in an isolated barn conversion, home to a quiet middle-aged couple.

Duncan returned home from the pub to discover his wife dead at the foot of their cellar steps. There are no signs of a forced entry or robbery, but the evidence says Pat’s death was no accident. His reaction is strange, but he has a solid alibi for the time of death.

Fiona will have to dig deep into the victim’s past to uncover the shocking truth. Pat’s anti-blood sports stance had split the close-knit local community and created a rift with her sister. Could her sister or another hunt member be responsible?

Things escalate when Fiona discovers Pat had been about to expose a dubious police appointment. There’s a second murder, and the police officer implicated disappears.

While Fiona struggles to solve this troubling case, DCI Peter Hatherall is battling demons of his own.

What stood out the most was the description hunting of the fox hunting.

The virtual voice was better than most. I liked its accent. It did pronounce some words wrong.

Very dull in the reading.

Dislike the monotone of the voice of computers. The story was likeable. However the computer read story ruined it.
