Nora Roberts calls Julia Quinn’s novels, “Delightful.” The #1 New York Times bestselling creator of the irresistible Bridgerton family, Quinn offers historical romance readers new delights with A Night Like This—the second book (following the phenomenal Just Like Heaven) to feature the affairs, romantic and melodic, of the endearing, if painfully untalented, Smythe-Smith musicians. On A Night Like This in Regency England, anything can happen, especially when a beautiful pianist sitting in at the annual Smythe-Smith musicale catches the eye of a haunted, hunted man in desperate need of redemption. There is simply no author in the realm of historical romance fiction hotter than the remarkable Julia Quinn—and anyone who has ever been swept away by the love stories of Amanda Quick, Lisa Kleypas, or Jill Barnett will cherish A Night Like This.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I enjoyed this book and recommend it if you’re in the mood for an entertaining romance with a sprinkling of light erotica. The heroine is smart, witty, not too silly. Surprisingly the hero is equally appealing, with a good sense of humor. Their personalities seem slightly 21st century to me, but after all this isn’t historical fiction.

What did you like best about this story?

The couple, Ann and Daniel, develop an infatuation that deepens into a strong mutual understanding and appreciation. The secondary characters are well-developed and believable. Don’t expect deep philosophy or characters that cope with historical events during this time period (early to mid 1800?). The story is deftly balanced between the love plot and the action in the characters’ lives.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This book didn’t change my life, but the characters did stick with me after I finished reading the story.

delicious and enjoyable

Julia Quinn did it again! Looking at the cover I thought this was going to be another Cinderella story. I was pleasantly surprised when it was not.

This book is all love, passion, and drama

Love it

If you like absurd, light-hearted humor with your romance, you can't do better than Julia Quinn, especially her Smythe-Smith Quartet series (though most of her books are set in this world of characters). The Smythe-Smith unmarried daughters (cousins and sisters) are following the long held family tradition of forming a quartet for their renowned annual musicale. Renowned, that is, for how awful the music is - always. Yet most of the Smythe-Smith performers, past and present, are clueless to their incompetence.

This year, one of the current crop is competent and cannot stomach taking part in the musicale one more time. She conveniently falls ill on the day of the performance. Our heroine, Anne, currently hiding out as a governess, is forced to save the musicale... well, as much as anyone could save it.

She is spotted by Daniel who has only just returned after years of living in exile on the Continent. Anne has no interest in a relationship that would certainly result in exposing her secrets.

With moments of hilarity, fear, regrets, and passion, love does find a way to prevail.
