Lord Benning is no ordinary nobleman. The heir to an earldom, he feels more at home working on the farm at his country estate than socializing in the ballrooms of London. So when a mysterious, veiled woman mistakes him for a farmhand, he takes the assumption in stride. And though he is not offended, he is intrigued.

Following a devastating outbreak of smallpox, Caroline Granger and her young daughter, Meg, retreat to Caroline’s childhood home in the village of Leyfield in Gloucestershire. Left widowed and weakened by the ravages of the disease, Caroline wears a veil to hide her facial scars and to prevent the inevitable gasps of horror or murmurs of pity others offer in response to her altered appearance.

Caroline is mortified when she learns of her error in addressing Lord Benning—or Benedict, as she called him during their growing-up years—as a farmhand. But shared childhood memories and a precocious four-year-old inevitably draw Benedict and Caroline together, and it’s not long before Caroline realizes that Benedict accepts every part of her—including her scars. With newfound courage and a growing love for Benedict, Caroline feels the first stirrings of hope. But when the disease that took so much from Caroline finds its way to Leyfield, she stands to lose more than she can bear, and Benedict must decide exactly how much he is willing to risk for a chance at love.

I’ve hesitated about reading this one even though I do love all of Bessey’s writings as well as anything narrated by Noah Wall. I was concerned about how I would resonate with a romance based on a woman very scarred from smallpox. Honestly, this story was beautiful, the romance wonderfully heartwarming, and little Meg an absolute delight!

I read some of my Kindle and listened to some on Audible and fully enjoyed both.

Heartwarming

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I found the information about the small pox epidemic and the scarcity of the wheat harvest very interesting. I am sorry that this is the last book in this series, Georgian Gentleman, by Sian Ann Bessey. I have enjoyed all 6 books in this series very much.

Just enough intrigue to keep the storyline from being a sappy love story. The inclusion of the historical happenings was a boon. I’m reading the entire series!!

This is the final book in the Georgian Gentleman series. It is a kisses only historical romance. This story can certainly be read as a standalone book.

I loved the historical aspects of this story. I don't remember ever reading abut these issues in such detail.

The characters were also very likable and relatable. Meg just stole the show!

I listened to the audiobook and and thought Noah Wall did a fantastic job as usual. She really brings the story to life for me. All the characters had their own unique "voice". It was very well done!
