Agatha has lived every day of the last seven years with her sisters: They work together, laugh together, pray together. Their world is contained within the little house they share. The four of them are devoted to Mother Roberta and to their quiet, purposeful life. But when the parish goes broke, the sisters are forced to move. They land in Woonsocket, a former mill town now dotted with wind turbines. They head up a halfway house, where they live alongside castoffs like the jawless Tim Gary and the headstrong Lawnmower Jill. Agatha is forced to venture out into the world alone, to teach math at a local all-girls high school, where for the first time in years she will have to reckon with what she sees and feels all on her own. Who will she be if she isn't with her sisters? These women, the church, have been her home - or has she just been hiding?

Disarming, delightfully deadpan, and full of searching, Agatha of Little Neon offers a view into the lives of women and the choices they make. It is a novel about female friendship and devotion, the roles made available to us, and how we become ourselves.

Stereotyped characters, predictable story. Some interesting views of the life of nuns, but overall pretty underwhelming.

Every nun movie cliche

Thoughtful and humorous tale of religion in modern life. I enjoyed the narration and definitely recommend.

Brilliant

The performance of this book was fantastic however, the story was very slow and told in tiny chapters. It was hard to get a grip on where the whole thing was going. It was also hard to believe that there are young, American nuns still wearing habits, etc.I am a Catholic, and I have never met a nun under the age of 70 in all my life. I loved the community of little neon, but I never fell in love with the story.

A bit too slow for me

Clare Luchette’s novel is brilliant, a refreshing original voice. I look forward to reading many more books by this brilliant young author.

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK! I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED THAT A BOOK ABOUT CATHOLIC SISTERS COULD BE SO DEEP AND CAPTIVATING. THE FOCUS IS REALLY ON PERSONAL IDENTITY, GROUP DYNAMICS, RELATIONSHIPS, AND BELONGING.

FAVORITE QUOTE:
I HAVE LOOKED AT THE WORLD AND FOUND IT WANTING. THE WORLD HAS HAD WOMEN FOR SUCH A LONG TIME. I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO BE PATIENT ANYMORE.

Great book!
