Winner of the RNA's Popular Romantic Novel Award 2025.

Oxfordshire 1362

When Lily Barden discovers her best friend Johanna’s hand in marriage is being awarded as the main prize at a tournament, she is determined to stop it. Disguised as a knight, she infiltrates the contest, preparing to fight for Jo’s hand. But her conduct ruffles feathers, and when a dangerous incident escalates out of Lily’s control, Jo must help her escape.

Finding safety with a local brewster, Lily and Jo soon settle into their new freedom, and amongst blackberry bushes and lakeside walks an unexpected relationship blossoms. But when Jo’s past catches up with her and Lily’s reckless behaviour threatens their newfound happiness, both women realise that choices must always come at a cost. The question they need to ask is if the cost is worth the price of love…

Perfect for fans of Freya Marske, Alexis Hall and Casey McQuiston.

This was a really fun read. The two main characters felt like whole human beings. And who doesn’t love a well written sapphic love story. I enjoyed this.

Sapphic Love

Enter medieval tournament disguised as a man to save your “friend” from a forced marriage, runaway together when one of you gets a little over protective one night, live a glorious few weeks with a safe and caring family, learn how to run a brewery(!!), show off your embroidery skills, pass cute notes, swimming lessons, slow burn finally heats up, dramatically joyful (and also, unfortunately awful) reunions, wild rescue, HEA.

Very cute story! I thought the ending started to shake out kind of a little too sweetly, and ngl, I did kind of feel bad for Adam in the end lol xD

The performance was good, but the dual characters were a bit weird to me. I kind of wish they did it in a dramatization style instead where they played their respective characters regardless of the POV, but I do understand why they did it the way they did. Also, I noticed there were several editing mistakes where lines were doubled up.

Cute!

This book was sooooo good. The world building and development of the characters was spot on. The two MC were so good for each other. Well written and felt the facts for the setting of the story felt accurate. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of spice in the book! This is going in my favorites!
