Fiona Turner wonders which challenge will be the death of her: the renovation of a massive, crumbling, centuries-old English castle to make it fit for the King and Queen of England, or turning an American into a proper English duchess.
As Princess Beryl's lady-in-waiting, Fiona's duties are usually limited to the tedium and tradition of royal functions. However, in preparation to host the king and queen's anniversary party, Princess Beryl has tasked Fiona to spearhead the renovation of a neglected but beautiful estate called Alabarden Park. The castle's latest young duchess, Alice Stewart, has agreed to the renovation and hosting the party, on the condition Fiona also help her manage the estate while she gets her bearings with a new peerage and sprawling inheritance. There is only one problem.
The new duchess is American. A reckless, cheerful, ebullient American.
Fiona's introversion and devotion to tradition has met its match against Alice's relentless effervescence and unorthodox ideas—but the constant friction creates an undeniable heat between them. When tragedy strikes, Fiona must choose between the royal duties close to her heart, or the duty she has to follow her heart.

Admittedly, I was not fond of Alice’s accent early on, but it truly grew on me. Once I was able to visualize Alice properly, the voice and face finally clicked. Thank you Google Gemini. 👍🏽
As for the English accents, I actually found them quite fitting. The slower cadence reflects a certain "think before you speak" mentality that feels essential to the aristocratic setting. I don’t expect perfect accents from voice narration but I personally feel Jen did a decent job for not being a Brit. Fiona’s portrayal, in particular, is a standout.
This story is so much more than its logistics or its setting. It is a beautiful story that about these two women who feel destined for each other. The pacing is deliberate and tender, and I love that the story is lengthy. I’m in no rush to reach the end.
I just finished Chapter 12 and to be honest..
I was screaming internally like R2-D2. It was SCORCHING hot. I’m trying to pace my reading now because I don’t want the experience to end, but it’s becoming impossible to put down. Whether it’s on sale or full price, buy it. It is worth every cent or the credit to buy this book and experience a fantastic love story.
Thank you TJ O’Shea and Jen Jayden. What you two have done is nothing short of phenomenal.
Finished it completely and let me reiterate, this book is phenomenal! It’s incredibly heartwarming. I strongly recommend reading this book. It’ll surprise you. I know it surprised me. I didn’t expect to love a book so much but it will definitely be one of my favorites. ♥️
Definitely deserves a standing “O”.. 😉
