Why do some societies collapse into lawless savagery while others prove resilient and lasting?

On Zero Day of the first and last cyberwar in human history, the internet went dark, transport and power grids collapsed and cities began to starve, showing just how vulnerable the world could be to a targeted campaign of online sabotage. This final instalment of this prescient epic of civilisation collapse finds the small ragtag band of survivors come together to face a new, but eerily familiar threat - the rise of a fascist militia among the ruins of a failing country.

With American Kill Switch, John Birmingham’s End of Days trilogy comes to a high-octane, thrilling conclusion.

Wraps it all up well. The usual gallows humour and explosive action balanced with memorable characters. Another excellent trilogy.

A very satisfactory conclusion.

It wasn’t great but it was a very good trilogy. I’m glad I stuck with it. Also glad the writer didn’t make the frequent mistake of making it a series just to try and sell more. It could have been great but the ending was a little weak.

I would look for more by the writer and narrator.

Very Good Book

This was a pretty good story, but a few things bothered me, especially in the last book.

The author’s inclusion of non-American terms (rubbish bin instead of trash can, etc) distracted me from the story and should have been caught by an editor.

Also, the third book really took a disgusting turn with one of the story lines, one that could have been told just as well (and better) without resulting to so much vulgarity. I really should have stopped listening, but by that time was so invested in the plot (I don’t know how many hours of listening) that I wanted to see it through to conclusion. Language and smut like that should not have been intermixed into an otherwise enjoyable story. (But what happened to Rick’s girlfriend?)

Nice conclusion, but worst of the three

Very entertaining. Well developed characters and engrossing story line. Was sad when I finished.

Good read

Loved the series...couldn't stop to sleep because I was so engrossed! I read reviews criticizing the descriptive language, but I'll wager those are folks have not experienced primal fear. Raw and exposed; why this genre if you don't want reality like a 2 x 4 to the face?!
