She has nowhere to go, except the dilapidated mansion she's just inherited from her Granny Minna. Unfortunately, Bailey discovers the house has a history as shadowy as its hidden passages and finds the neighborhood overflowing with some rather quirky folks. Bailey suddenly feels like she's trapped inside the pages of a gothic novel - but with a comedic twist. In order to honor her grandmother's wishes and stay at Volstead Manor Bailey must unravel a string of mysteries and secrets, which all seem determined to stay happily ever buried.

A Great Mystery

A wonderful story that can be read and given to children as inspiration to do what’s right, no matter what.
No language, no one hopping in bed with someone just a great love story of change and believing in ones self!
Thank you Ms. Higman!!!

What disappointed you about Another Stab at Life?

Couldn't even listen to the whole story, narrator was toooo annoying. She sometimes s/l Ginger on Gilligan's Island or Marilyn Monroe, and other times s/l a super formal, staunch sharp, old charm-school teacher with a ruler telling everyone to E-NUN-CI-ATE. D's and T's were so sharp it was extremely annoying and totally detracted from the story and feel of the characters and the mystery who didn't seem warm and caring at all due to the narration. I tried to return it but could not, so I skipped to the end to see who-done-it (no spoilers), but just thought "big deal, finally over". I was sure hoping to be able to listen to a good long series, but it sure won't be this one! Wasted a credit, grrr...

Horrible narration ruined it for me.
