A Gaslight Chronicles novella

London, 1860

Police inspector Sebastian Brown served Queen and country in India before returning to England to investigate supernatural crimes alongside the Order of the Round Table. If his wifeless, childless life feels a little empty sometimes, that's not too great a price to pay in the name of duty.

Minerva Shaw is desperately seeking a doctor when she mistakenly lands on Sebastian's doorstep. Her daughter Ivy has fallen gravely ill with a mysterious illness-the same illness, it seems, that's responsible for taking the lives of many of Ivy's classmates.

Seb sniffs a case, and taking in Minnie and Ivy seems the only way to protect them while he solves it. But as mother and daughter work their way into his heart and Seb uses every magickal and technological resource he can muster to uncover the source of the deadly plague, it's he who will need protecting-from emotions he'd thought buried long ago.

well pleased

This one was a disappointment for me. The story wasn’t so hot so the narrator wasn’t so hot. It was all just flat for me.

Moving on to the next one, crossing my fingers.

Disappointed in this short

3-1/2 stars: Not bad for a novella. I liked the characters but the whole falling in love in one day was a bit hard to believe. However, given that it was a novella, I'm cutting it a little slack. The narrator of the audiobook was terrible. Her voices were fine but her cadence, speed and pacing were horrible. It was only a little over 3 hours of listening so I managed to suffer through it but don't think I could have listened to a full length book with her narrating.

Decent novella but better in print

Enjoyable novella full of fabulous characters, with a great adventure. Minerva knocks on the wrong door when looking for a Doctor for her young daughter. What follows is a lovely mystery and a awesome ending. Highly recommended.
