I knew I shouldn't have opened my door, but when a seven-foot descendant of a death god comes calling, you answer.

Especially if this Anubis is from the government, but I don't have anything to hide from the IRS.

Turns out, my mom—a.k.a. my business accountant—does.

Now, every time I turn around, he's there.

But I don't need a stranger to fix my problems. I'm doing just fine on my own, and I swear the only thing crumbling in my life is the topping on my amazing fruit cobblers.

A fun read if you like spice

This was largely a fun read that is maaaaybe about one-fourth to one-third "spicy times." Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more. That part of the book was overall pretty good for what it is, especially as the two leads are VERY interested in switching up who's dominant and submissive. I do enjoy my switch!couple rep.

The lore of the setting was also intriguing, not too bare bones and leaving no obvious questions to answer. More than enough to provide the backdrop for an escapist romantic fantasy.

Now I do want to warn for some of the potentially triggering content, for those who might think this is an entirely cozy read, and spoilers ahead! There's a mother who's emotionally and financially abusive (and eventually tries assault), an abusive ex who also escalates from on-page verbal abuse to attempted murder, and destruction of property via a house fire.

There's also some acknowledged dubiousness about "accidentally forever marrying someone because I lost control in the throes of passion" but that is overall pretty light. I will also note this book begins to lean more and more into "het A/B/O" as it continues, since that's not for everyone. It's not my preferred thing but I didn't mind it here, especially since as noted above the characters are into switching up roles rather than having one specific dynamic in bed. And I did have some amusement comparing Ahnou's "My alpha is X" to FSG's "My inner goddess is X."

So freaking cute 🥰🥰 I absolutely love them. Two sweet, kind hearted souls fixing each other. There's a slight miscommunication the couple doesn't have a big blow up, the love and understanding is amazing!

Hidden gem 💎

I picked this up after finishing something heavy and it was a breath of fresh air. I loveeeeed the chemistry between the FMC/MMC and think they make a perfect/spicy match. Definitely recommend it overall just have a few gripes (spoilers ahead): it seemed like the author was setting up the epilogue for Sera to have her own story in the upcoming book but that doesn’t happen? Also, I really wanted to experience Fern’s much needed revenge against her hellish ex/mom and we only got like a nibble of their fates. But regardless, this book isn’t supposed to be that deep, just fun and sweet and that’s definitely what was served up. Excited about the next one!

Great story! Narration was perfect! I highly recommend this book. I thought it was a stand alone but there's more! I'm going to go look for book # 2 right now.

Shorty was cute but harsher consequences for Chad and mom and maybe meeting ferns relatives in Egypt

Could have had better ending fern and Anubis meet ferns family and then the have kids
