When the Underworld burned, I thought that was the end. Turns out it was only the beginning.
Lucifer’s death was a shot heard around the world. The sudden loss of magic turned the tides for the first time in over two decades.
The humans are rallying. Rioting. It feels like the stirrings of war.
As if that wasn’t enough, Bree isn’t the sister I remember - and her desire to return to Hell is creating more fires than I know how to put out.
Things are changing. Lines are drawn. Everyone must choose a side. Even me.
Sometimes, the world needs a hero. In a city that’s already gone to hell in a hand basket, it might just need a demon.
If you can’t get enough of books by Ella Summers, Annette Marie, Shannon Mayer, Deborah Wilde, K.F. Breene, Jeaniene Frost, Kelly St. Clare, and Linsey Hall, then dive right in to the dangerous depths of New Chicago. Beware of headstrong heroines with snark. These ladies don’t bark. They bite.

Piper is put through the emotional ringer in this book. She is full of guilt, anger, and regret. She is full of longing for what she knows she can’t have and that blinds her to what she has in front of her for some of this book. It’s a storyline of growth and it’s raw. The narration matches that perfectly.
I’m interested to read book two and listen to it once the audio releases. I was left with many questions. What is going on with Bri? Part of me wants to dislike her, but another part is asking if her actions are her own. The new character at the end has me wondering what will happen next. Ronan is supposed to be this mega powerful being. He is the Harvester and it is mentioned over and over how easily he can annihilate someone so I’m confused as to how he and Piper are continually put into such precarious positions. Pipers new development and the end of this book was surprising and I am interested in reading how her new knowledge impacts her actions when faced with this new threat.
