A heart-pounding romantasy following a rebellious princess who must compete to the death against her siblings for the crown to ensure justice, while fighting her feelings for her country's most powerful enemy by debut author Alexandra Kennington

Revna is no stranger to struggle. As the only member of the royal family without a magical ability, she is seen as an embarrassing mistake by her kingdom and a blight on her bloodline. Luckily, Revna has found family in other outcasts in her kingdom. But when her two closest friends’ lives are put in danger, she is determined to save them by any means necessary, no matter the cost. The Bloodshed Trials—a competition where the last sibling in the royal family standing takes the throne—might just be the ultimate price.

Revna turns down her arranged marriage and commits to competing for the throne only to be kidnapped by the mysterious and terrifyingly powerful Hellbringer, the general of her country’s greatest enemy. He has the ability to rend souls with the flick of his wrist and is every inch as intimidating as the war stories say he is. But Revna wonders if there may be some humanity left in him—especially when he reveals there are other parties who want her on the throne for their own secret reasons.

I absolutely adore the author’s writing. The story revolves around a strong, rebellious female protagonist who is shunned by her family because she lacks magical abilities. It’s a slow-burn romantic fantasy that weaves in political intrigue and trials to the death. The narrative explores a divide between those who possess magic and those who don’t. The story ends on a cliffhanger, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the release of book two. The great story narration adds to the overall enjoyment of the book.

Loved it

The narrator did a great job and the story was written well. It gives you just enough to reel you in and leave you wanting more, but you also get the emotional feels for the characters. I enjoyed the end and really liked the adventure along the way. Will definitely recommend to my friends and I can't wait for the next one!

Great listen for romantasy lovers!

Very similar to the Powerless series but more adult. Regan is strong in spite of her lack of magic and determined to unite her people. The Hellbringer is a monster with a soft hidden side and together…we shall see.

Exciting romantasy

The whole world interrupted and captivated me from the beginning to the end. Would building was awesome and I am sucker for FMC with good war stories and the spice was 🌶️🌶️🌶️. Very much my type of book.

At very first it had potential. I was willing to overlook the bad/repetitive writing but then I realized there was no character development. They were all extremely flat. and then to make it worse the writing never got better.... it actually got worse. The narrator was ok but I didn't feel any real emotion.

Poorly written
