In this intoxicating Carpathian novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan, a woman falls prey to the seductive allure of the past—and a vampire warrior’s intoxicating embrace...

The moment Charlotte Vintage walks into his club, Tariq Asenguard’s blood is set on fire. The ancient Carpathian had given up hope of finding his lifemate, but now he will do anything to make Charlotte his own. What Tariq doesn’t know is that Charlotte is using herself and her best friend as bait—to try to draw out the bloodthirsty killers who have already murdered Charlotte’s brother and mentor.

Charlotte is familiar with Tariq. Not only is he one of the richest and most eligible bachelors in the city, but he’s also a renowned collector of old carousel horses, which Charlotte restores. Their shared passion opens Charlotte up to trusting him with her life and with the desire she can no longer control. But it also makes her vulnerable to a centuries-old curse that will unite her and Tariq in a war against the enemies of humans and Carpathians alike...

I have been reading these stories, and this author for many years. Until now, I have always read them in order. Unbeknownst to me, there was a novella titled "Dark Crime," that was published in the anthology "Edge of Darkness," that actually comes before "Dark Carousel." There are things that are referred to in "Dark Carousel," that I had no clue about, because I didn't know I was supposed to read "Dark Crime" first. Don't make my mistake. It left me confused and frustrated. Now I feel like I need to listen again to this book to put it all back into context. I am writing this review a few hours after finishing "Dark Crime," and a few weeks after listening to "Dark Carousel."

Nonetheless, this was still an excellent story and I love hearing about these ancient Carpathians. The narrator does an excellent job with the book. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect score is because of the confusion I had while listening to the parts of the story that referred to events that the reader is supposed to be familiar with. I understand that "Dark Crime" is coming out as a stand-alone book in early October. IMHO, it should have been published on its own before this book was published.

Suspenseful...

the narrator couldn't get the right pronoun. I want sure if Charlotte was a male or female. and please, when you say that a character sings a lullaby, then sing it. even a pleasant sing song read is better than what he did.

great story lousy read!

This is a direct sequel to Dark Crime in Edge of Darkness anthology. Several story arcs are possible with the creation of this story & it will be interesting to see where Feehan goes with them. Is Emmeline or Genevieve Gary's mate? Gen felt unfinished business in France...? If they can convert the psychic children here, will they do so in the Carpathians? Where is Grace & is she psychic? Will the ancients find their mates? Frangione is ok as narrator, but he's not "the voice" Phil Gigante.
