Her K-9 partner, Hawk, accompanies Meg and Todd to their resort, reveling in his celebrity status with both staff and guests. After a week of relaxation, all three are ready to get out into nature on the Big Island, where Meg and Hawk can practice search strategies.

In the remote fern forest of Pu‘u Maka‘ala Natural Area Reserve, Hawk’s senses are on high alert. When Meg lets him leave the path, they encounter two men trapping bright birds. The poachers escape, leaving their bounty behind, and when agents from the FBI and US Fish and Wildlife arrive, they confirm that the birds are all endangered species near extinction. Super-wealthy collectors acquire them for private zoos, with no regard for the birds’ survival. Alive or dead, these beautiful creatures are merely trophies.

Meg, Todd, and Hawk join an official search using a local conservation dog to pinpoint vulnerable nesting grounds in an attempt to protect trafficked wildlife and to stop the poachers in their tracks. But beyond the threat posed by determined poachers lurks another danger—Mauna Loa, one of the island’s active volcanoes, has been grumbling, and is poised to turn this mission into their most terrifying yet.

I love that this one was not in Washington/Virginia, it was in Hawaii

I hate that their honeymoon had to be interrupted, but Meg, hawk, and Todd spent time and beautiful Hawaii solving a crime

Meg and Hawk

Let's go on our Honeymoon and take a lovely vacation. Ha! Not a chance for Meg and Todd. Meg bumps into a pair of rare animal traffickers, and - as they say - that's all she wrote. Off and running into another adventure with the whole group, including dogs. Lots of action and - just to add some spice - an active volcano.

What stood out the most from an author that I’ve read every book. Boring.

I have read every book from this author, and I’ve loved the series. Even though I do not care for the narrator as her little lilt up with the words, I don’t even know how to say it maybe the cadence of her words drives me insane. She can’t just state a word as it is, but it has to put an upbeat in the middle of it. Anyway until the last hour and a half of this book, it was the most boring book I’ve ever listened to. It was like an AI actually wrote it. All it was was dialogue. Dialogue dialogue. Useless information. I could’ve listened to a documentary if I wanted to. I didn’t. And all the authors are now including date and time in their books for every chapter, which nobody cares about. The only reason they do this I believe is for a word count. I’m sorry, I have loved all her other books, but not this one.
