"Death Comes for the Archbishop" is a masterful work of historical fiction by Willa Cather. Set in the American Southwest in the mid-19th century, the novel tells the story of a young French priest who is sent to establish a Catholic diocese in a rugged and unfamiliar land. Through his encounters with the indigenous people and his fellow settlers, the priest comes to understand the complexities and beauty of the human spirit. With its vivid descriptions and deep insight into the human soul, "Death Comes for the Archbishop" is a timeless meditation on the meaning of faith, community, and the quest for spiritual fulfillment.

This narrator is pretty terrible. Doesn’t have good timing and pronounces things wrong and the same word different ways at different times!

Constant mispronunciation

I probably bought this because it was the cheapest, and what can I say: you get what you pay for. The narrator will go from the American pronunciation of a name or word to the French pronunciation of the same word...in the same sentence. The story is amazing, and this rendition of it is so bad, it's hilarious. Worst narration ever (and I've listened to middle school teacher read-alongs on YouTube, bless their hearts). Caveat emptor!

Comically Bad Narration

I was most impressed with the descriptions of the times and places there in New Mexico. It tells exactly how people lived and what was happening in their minds as a year passed. He touching story that I would hope many more will have a chance to read.
