Morrigan died as the unwilling sacrifice in a demonic ritual, but the Grim Reaper has another plan for this wayward soul—to make her his new apprentice!

Reaping isn't exactly her dream summer job (long hours, crappy pay, no benefits), but with the alternative being banished to limbo, she's ready to give it a shot!

Will Morrigan embrace her new role as a bringer of death, or cling hopelessly to her lost humanity? Either way, she'll have to adapt to a world of spirits, hollows, black magic, and demons while completing her daily murder list is "just part of the job."

I do enjoy many parts of this story, and the writing is good, but the main character annoys me at times with her whiny personality—which she somehow doubles down on in book two. I often have to remind myself that she’s a sixteen-year-old kid, so the behavior fits. Still, she’s supposed to be a self-raised, street-smart girl, and it feels like she should have a bit more common sense.

Ugh. I really do like the overall concept of this story, but there are moments when I wish I could yell at this whiny brat. Most of the problems she has to deal with are self-imposed, caused by her attitude and her constant refusal to do—or arguing about—what she needs to do.

If you can handle—or even enjoy—following an entitled brat who refuses to listen to advice from people with more experience, only to get into the exact trouble she was warned about, then you’ve found your next series. lol

Great Writing. Frustrating Main Character

as of the typing of this review, i have not finished the book so hopefully things get better. but as of chapter 29 the MC is the most insufferable person ever put to paper.

i have a bad feeling about this

As many other reviews have stated, the MC is quite whiny and frustrating adverse to adapting to her situation. Which is about what you would expect of a teenager thrown into a situation beyond her control after a rather traumatizing experience, something other characters also acknowledge and isn't being ignored for convenience. The reasoning and story do make sense, and the writing is better than many others that have come out in recent years.

The narration is also pretty solid, but some male characters are hard to hear while driving, especially if you listen at faster speeds.

Well written, but frustrating

I like, really liked this… way more than I thought I would and I’m very pleased. The premise is interesting, the characters are relatable and the worldbuilding is there. I’m excited to see where things go in the future

Really great
