Kill. Eat. Evolve. Repeat.

Jade was born wrong, as a magicless half-beastkin in a world ruled by power.

After a failed elven ritual traps her in a monster-filled dungeon, restraint stops mattering. She wakes up with scales, wings, and a body that grows stronger with every kill. The hunt feels good. Almost too good.

The only catch is that she’s becoming a dragon, in mind and body.

To escape, Jade must climb the dungeon’s food chain, indulging the instincts she spent her life suppressing, or die as prey. After all, humanity is optional. Survival isn’t.

I've been meaning to revisit the beginning of this story and having an an audio version available was the perfect excuse.

The voicework was pretty top notch, although just like the story itself, it took the narrator a bit to get fully into the groove as it were. Once Jade becomes a dragon the internal dialogue becomes absolutely hilarious! I found myself giggling at her antics several times.

One thing to note is the plethora of repeated lines that managed to stick around between takes. While somewhat jarring, I dont envy whoever would have to comb through the story to fix them all, since the book is literally 24 hours long.

Overall, I love this story, and the voice team did a great job bringing it to life.

Delightfully chaotic

I absolutely loved it. It's hard to find good books with non-human MCs and this knocked it out of the park. The world building and power systems are well done and I'm already eager to listen to the second book !

Amazing story and performance

I love stories where the person is a monster or reincarnated as a monster, but most of them have a problem with the person tries way too hard to cling to their humanity and as soon as they get a human form they spend almost every other book in it and you rarely ever get to see them transform anymore. so it's really nice seeing someone actually just embrace their new side can't wait for the next book!

absolutely love it!

I loved the premise, and when I could hear it the narrator(s) were doing a good job, which... Brings us biggest issue i had the sound was all over the place, from too loud (especially during character stats more on that later) to so soft I had to check volume during what I assume are critical moments. The other issue I had was character status in the middle of a chapter or more annoyingly a second reading of status within 5 minutes of the end of the last on, once per chapter at most either at end or beginning (most definitely not at end of one chapter and beginning of the next)
